If you plan on visiting the Atlanta area, and enjoy live music, a relaxed atmosphere and great comfort food, then Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint is the place to be.
When I think of a juke joint, the very first image that comes to mind is Harpo’s juke joint in the movie The Color Purple. Sweet Georgia’s is far from that in image but I imagine that the atmosphere is very similar to that of an old style juke joint in the rural south. From the food to the live music, the vibe is almost nostalgic.
Open for happy hour, dinner and Sunday brunch, the juke joint’s menu has something to offer for everyone, from southern staples like shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles, to the classic Juke Cheeseburger. If you think the food is amazing, so are the drinks! The drink menu includes moonshine cocktails in addition to house speciality drinks such as The Color Purple, and the Sweet Georgia Peach-Tini. Sunday brunch comes complete with endless mimosas.
Sweet Georgia’s has a list of 26 house bands and performers that perform each night. During the week (Monday-Saturday), two sets are performed by two different acts and on Sunday there are three performances. On any given night you’ll hear musical genres ranging from classic R&B, to Soul and Contemporary Jazz.
Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint is located in the former Macy’s building at 200 Peachtree Street, Suite L05, in Atlanta, GA. Hours of operation are: Happy Hour Monday-Friday 4pm-6:30 pm, Dinner: Monday-Saturday 4pm and Sunday 3pm, and Brunch: Sunday 11 am.
