Chitose Abe, creative director of the innovative Japanese label Sacai and former pattern cutter for Comme des Garçons, has released a womenswear collaboration with Nike under their Nikelab footprint. Her influential designs employing the use of fluid-like fabrics and delicate drapes have gained her an impressive fan base within the fashion industry. With her latest collaboration, the Japanese designer has incorporated her dynamic style into traditional Nike sportswear pieces, combining bright colors with her own playful signature accents. With a total of eight items, the Nikelab x Sacai collab features highly innovative compositions such as an original Nike wind runner jacket being recast as a skirt, complete with a crinkle-style paneling. Another piece attaches a peplum opening to an original sweatshirt giving it an unexpected look. Abe’s vision for this collaboration was to represent her exploration between masculinity and femininity, combined with and admiration for movement fluidity. The collection is complete with footwear , including a reverse engineered Nike Air Max with an elastic tongue (effectually making it a slip-on), and also a Nike Dunk sneaker complete with a 20mm wedge. These pieces can be found currently at Nike.com/Nikelab, or at the Nikelab 21 Mercer location in SoHo, NYC.
As of 3/19 NikeLab has delayed the release of the NikeLab X Sacai Air Max 90 Until a “later Date”
