Last night at the Barclays center homage was paid to the most iconic hip hop label in the world.

Def Jam records celebrated 30 years and have been all year long. From special events to a released box set of music. Yesterday at the Barclays was the icing on the cake. 30 years of Def Jam artist reunited and took stage to perform their biggest hits from when they were on the label.

The night was kicked off by DJ legend and a man who was on Def Poetry Jam Kid Capri who has the crowd going throughout the night. Def Jam took it back to its Priority days when Warren G started off the show only to be followed by Oynx taking it back to their 1st album. The Barclays crowd was hype and excited at the start of the show. But then it was time for some hometown action as Brooklyn’s own Foxy Brown took the stage. Foxy performed hits like ” Aint No N*gga ” and ” Touch Me Tease Me “. She even bought out special guest Spragga Benz.

Def Jam’s 30th concert didn’t only have hip hop stars they had Hollywood’s own Gabrielle Union and Yo MTV Raps Ed Lover in the building. Ed Lover was introducing certain acts throughout the night. Keith Murray was the 1st act he introduced and showed the crowd he can still rock a stage. After Keith the next performance was one of the best of the night, Method Man and Redman. Rockwilder , You , 4,3,2,1 name it those two performed it and their whole set was fed off of the energy of the huge crowd at the Barclays. Meth and Red performed like they did years ago with an amazing night of energy and crowd interaction. Each act was getting better than the last and then we heard what I think was a truly amazing freestyle from Erick Sermon from EMPD. The group took to the stage and let us know it was strictly business and those bucket hats being rocked today , they started that.

The next fews acts help keep Def Jam Iconic especially the duo of Ja Rule and Ashanti who reunited for the 1st time. Ja Rule took to the stage 1st and performed his hits ” Holla Holla ” , ” Put It On Me ” , and ” Clap Back then he was joined by Ashanti. After they went through their catalog Ashanti took over for the ladies. She had every female in the crowd singing ” The Way I Love You ” and all her classic joints. Speaking of classic we all were treated to a treat as Peter Guns from Love and Hip Hop NY came through and performed “Uptown Baby”.

Next up where two young stars on the roster with current hits Big Sean with his “IDGAF” and Fabolous with tracks off his Soul Tape 3. Both artists bought that new Def Jam era to the stage and represented to the fullest. Fabolous has homecourt advantage performing in his backyard. 2 Chainz who did not have homecourt advantage still had the crowd vibing. 2 Chainz is really a treat to watch live and he didn’t disappoint. Either did hip hop legend DMX , who was DMX in his fullest. From the rants to the bars you got what you came to see from Dark Man X.

To close out the show Def Jam had one of their current biggest stars at the moment Rick Ross. The MMG boss hit the stag performing hits old and new. Furred up Rozay didn’t let Def Jam down and closed the show out in true Ross fashion , his set even included Nya Lee dropping it hot. Overall it was good to see those many artists come together in honor of Def Jam.
