It is definitely a somber day in Hollywood, and all over!
The iconic TV star, Mary Tyler Moore has died today, January 25th, 2017 at the age of 80. The Brooklyn native made her way into peoples homes and hearts during The Dick Van Dycke Show and later went on to star in her own show aptly titled “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”. She was an award nominated and winning actress and even co-founded a production company that was responsible for the successes of The Bob Newhart Show and Hill Street Blues among others.
Mary was a groundbreaking performer, she was after all the first ever televised single working woman! That may not sound like much but for the 70’s that was unheard of! She was a pioneer not only for her time but especially for woman. She has broken the glass ceiling and paved the way for all to follow, regardless of age and gender. Mary was more than just a talented actress. She was an advocate and frequently raised awareness for causes close to her like Diabetes, of which she suffered from. She “turned the world on with her smile” and she will be sorely missed.
